Piedmont, get ready. The brand new Piedmont Community Pool is opening in April. Let’s get a tour
Lisa:When you walk through the front doors, you'll be greeted by recreation staff. This welcoming lobby is where guests check in with electronic passes and have any questions answered. Paula Cooper-Tipton is the Recreation Supervisor.
Paula: We also have our big refrigerator and concession that’s right off the lobby. We have a window that opens off the pool so kids can get ice cream.
Lisa:Recreation coordinator Hadley Clegg will oversee all programming, from swim lessons and camps to parent-and-tot classes and aqua aerobics.
Hadley: This activity pool is about 83-85 degrees, and it goes to about 5 feet deep.
Lisa:The Smegal family poolside room is right next to the activity pool.
Hadley: We’ll have birthday parties where up to 24 people can come and have their birthday party by the pool.
Lisa: For competitive swimmers, the Settlemier competition pool has 12 lanes and will be kept at 79-80 degrees. It will host lap swimming, swim teams, and water polo.
Paula: We definitely plan to have the swim team, their practices, and their meets here. We don’t know exactly when that will happen, but we’re excited when it does. We have all the state-of-the-art equipment and the Colorado timing system for the swim meets. We have the best equipment, and we are excited to use it.
Lisa: And if you’re looking for the best view in the house? Recreation Director Chelle Putzer says it’s from the Ellis Family Pavilion
Chelle: It’s a beautiful space that overlooks the pool. You get a wonderful sunset at night. This can be used for outdoor classes; it’ll be open to the community during the day, so you can sit and watch tennis, but it’s also a rentable facility for parties. There are also restrooms that are connected to the tennis court through court 1 or court 4.
Lisa: Right now, the City is finishing punch list items and training lifeguards and staff. The pools are running and heating, which was a major milestone.
Chelle: That was one of the big things we were watching right now, making sure it’s maintaining its heat overnight and hitting certain points it’s supposed to, and that has been taking place, so that’s really great news.
Lisa: Piedmont’s newest gathering place is almost ready. April can’t come soon enough.
