Piedmont Swim Team shows up in force
Practice was canceled and more than 100 members of the Piedmont Swim Team, their parents and coaches converged on Piedmont Park. Everyone proudly wore their PST gear and walked together, as a team, to the Piedmont Community Pool groundbreaking ceremony.
Piedmont Swim Team Coach Colby Price said, “I’m super excited. It’s making everything a whole lot more real the pool has been empty a long time and it’s exciting to see we are starting this project.”
Kids are excited for the new Piedmont Pool
11 year old Amor Rodriguez joined the team 8 months ago. While she loves the coaches and the team, she says having a home pool in Piedmont will make it even better. “I’m excited about the swimming pool because now we can have our own place to swim so we don’t have to go around swimming at different pools like Montclair and Mills.”
Mason Armstrong added “The new pool seems really cool and I like it.”
Piedmont needs a community pool
Nathan Judy says the swim team provides him a sense of community. It has become a second family for him. He’s looking forward to when his swim family can have its own home. “We need a home pool right now and we don’t have one so it would be nice to have one in Piedmont because we’re a piedmont swim team and it’s especially close and walking distance for all of us.”
Paige Arnold was 7 when she started swimming at the Piedmont Pool. She has fond memories of it being a fun community spot. While she was sad to see it close she is looking forward to this next chapter. Paige will be starting her new chapter in the Fall swimming at Amherst College and she’s excited for the younger Piedmont Swim Team members to have a new home pool. “I’m hoping some can have the same journey as me because they’re at the age I started swimming at the Piedmont pool and I’m excited for them to have a community pool instead of going to Mills and other pools to swim.”
Zafar Majid misses the days when he could walk to swim practice right after school. “I’m excited about this new pool because it takes a long time to drive to one pool and back. It’ll be local. It’ll be nice to have a pool inside our community and not outside of it.”
Piedmont Swim Team acknowledged
After a brief ceremony the Piedmont Swim Team was asked to come up for a photo because even the organizers were blown away by how many members showed up.
