Biggest Poker Night Ever!
This year, the Havens Dads Club had the largest attendance ever for Havens Poker Night in its 15 years of existence. T.J. Won helped organize the event. “I think we are bursting at the seams to be honest in terms of capacity but everyone’s having a great time, so we can’t complain at all.”
185 Havens parents, friends of Havens parents, and even grandparents showed up to support the largest fundraiser for Havens elementary school. T.J. added, “You know we were sold out for many weeks before leading up to this event, so we were kind of worried because we wanted everyone to come. But what helped was we sold more tickets to come and just be social.”
More Women this Year
This year, Havens Poker Night organizers wanted to be more inviting and diversify the crowd. The result? 25% of the participants were women. Katie Castles Shaffer is the Havens Parents Club President. “It’s an opportunity for Havens families and parents to come together and have a really nice time.”
Havens principal Anne Dolid kicked off the night that brought in a record breaking $48,000. “Havens Poker Night is a phenomenal fundraiser. Last year, we funded the Becker Field replacement because of poker night. This year we’ve got a lot of projects that we’re hoping poker night can help us promote and support,” said Katie.
Delicious Donations
Food was donated by Robert Dorsey Catering and Arthur Macs, owned by Havens parents, Joel and Jordan DiGiorgio. The drinks were made by Havens dad, Peter Day. “It has been busy. I’ve never known anything like this. We’re 4 deep at the bar. We did not anticipate this level of engagement. It has been awesome, but we’ve been working hard my god. This is off the hook. We’ve never had it like this before. You can’t even compare.”
Plantinum Sponsor
I was proud to be the Havens Poker Night platinum sponsor this year, which means being featured on the playing cards and my very own cocktail. “By far the most popular drink has been Lisa’s famous fancy ranch water. We’ve made so many that we had to send out for more tequila, we had to send out for extra limes, we did not expect it but it is by far the biggest cocktail,” said Peter.
This year’s winner was Jimmy Lee, a first timer to Havens Poker Night and parent to two Havens Kindergartners. He took home the coveted bracelet and best of all, the winning title.
